Afterparty: The Mark Rothko Studio

AFTERPARTY: The Rothko Studio is a site-specific, promenade performance in and around the former studio of legendary painter Mark Rothko. Built in 1884 for the YMCA as the Young Men’s Institute, 222 Bowery is best known for the many now-famous artists who lived, worked, and played in this landmarked gem. The building’s former gymnasium is where Rothko created the infamous “Seagram Murals” commissioned by The Four Seasons restaurant in 1957. AFTERPARTY explores this pivotal moment for downtown artists and offers a rare opportunity to visit this site.

Interview with Everett Quinton – “Galas”

Vaudevisuals interviewed Ridiculous Theatrical Company member Everett Quinton. He discusses his revival of Charles Ludlam‘s ‘Critics Choice’ play “Galas” which is coming to Theater at St. John’s in Greenwich Village for a Limited Run.

The playing schedule for GALAS is as follows: Monday through Sunday evenings at 8pm, with official opening scheduled for Sunday, June 16th. There is an additional matinee performance on Sunday, June 16th at 3pm. There will be no performances on Tuesday, June 18th; Monday, June 24th; and Thursday, June 27th. In a deep exploration of an artist’s life, Paraiso investigates aging, identity, sexuality, class and race. Directed by MacArthur Fellow John Jesurun, this world premiere is a multi-disciplinary celebration of an artistic community as it grows older and continues to make work, both individually and with each other. Paraiso is joined by choreographer / dancers Irene Hultman, Jon Kinzel, Vicky Shick, and Paz Tanjuaquio in performance and as collaborators.‘
